We know many people are wondering how Mahout can control such a big elephant easily. And we even sometime heard that people are asking and saying if Karen (hill-tribe people from northern Thailand) can understand the elephant language as 90% of Mahouts in Thailand are Karen. Then, what is the Elephant language or mystery to communicate the Elephant?
We don’t know exactly but one example we could say is like you and your pet’s communication. Whatever languages you use to communicate your pet, sure, sooner or later, your pet will understand what you mean. Anyway, here we would like to share the “Common words controlling the elephant” which we learnt from our last trip to Thai Elephant Home. Words may be vary depend on different elephant camps but common words seems to be the same. If you plan your next trip to one of the elephant camps in Thailand (especially to northern Thailand), you better learn and practice before you go.
Now our friend is ready to control the elephant.
PS: One of the Mahouts will teach you and practice together with you before riding the elephant into the jungle. For more information, you may wish to contact Thai Elephant Home.
