5 Places you should know and visit in Singapore

Singapore may be known for its modernized building, wide variety of exotic foods, bustling shopping malls and vibrant nightlife. However, there are 5 places which keep some historical images or things to know when you visit there as described below:

(1) Geylang: There are five sub-zones in Geylang mainly Kallang Way, MacPherson, Kampong Ubi, Aljunied and Geylang East. It is known for its authentic local food, fresh durians and the notorious (but legal) red light district people who love to enjoy nightlife.

(2) Chinatown: It is evolved around 1821 when the first Chinese junk arrived from Xiamen, Fujian province in China. It is one of the few places in Singapore that has retained a significant portion of its historical and cultural roots. Do not forget that food is a must-try while you are over there, especially the famous Bakkwa, which is a Chinese salty-sweet barbecued pork jerky.

(3) Telok Blangah: It is situated in the southern part of Singapore and the name is translated to mean ‘cooking pot bay’ in Malay, and is so called due to the cooking pot shape of the bay. If you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle from the city, and to breathe the freshest air the country has to offer, Telok Blangah is the perfect location.

(4) Holland Village: As from the source, it is named after a Singapore architect Hugh Holland and known as a bustling commercial center situated near the Queenstown area of Singapore. Holland Village Shopping Mall and Holland Road Shopping Center are the two major shopping areas of the city.

(5) Little India: It is an ethnic neighborhood found in Singapore which has Tamil cultural elements. Little India lies to east of the Singapore River—across from Chinatown. Anywhere you go within Little India and you will immediately feel its rich Indian culture and the Tekka Centre is one of the many places you must visit.
